If you don’t like a tight space, read till the end

1. Keep Rooms Tidy

Nothing makes a small space feel smaller than too much stuff. By simply tidying up your room and keeping objects you don’t use frequently out of sight, you make the space that is in view feel orderly and more spacious.

2. Use Light Colors

In the design world, it is well known that light paint colors do make a room look bigger and brighter because light and bright walls tend to be more reflective. Neutral colors like off-white, beige, dusty blue, light gray, and sage green all have a way of maximizing the effect of natural light and are a great way to add some class and calm to room space. They also create an open and airy feel unlike darker shades which absorb light and make rooms feel tight. Remember that brighter rooms feel bigger and more inviting. You can also paint your wall trim and moldings in a lighter color than your walls. By doing so, the walls will appear farther back, making your living room look even bigger.

3. Use Multi-Functional Furniture

Using multi-functional furniture such as: chests that can be used as coffee tables, a sofa bed, a bed with storage drawers, expandable dining tables, furniture pieces with exposed legs, folding tables, and nesting tables can help you free up the space in your rooms; thereby making your rooms more spacious.

4. Scale Your Furniture To Fit Into The Size Of Your Rooms

Always pick furniture that is properly scaled to fit the size of your rooms. Don’t use big furniture in a small room. If furniture and accessories block the view into a room, the room will look cramped. Place a single large piece of furniture against walls in order to fully maximize the open space and make the room look bigger. Also, don’t block pathways.

5. Use More Mirrors

Yes, interior designers agree that mirrors make rooms appear larger and more open. You can do this by using a focal point and angling your mirror towards it to give the illusion of depth. Mirrors also reflect both natural and artificial light to make a room brighter during the day and night. Placing a mirror near a window to reflect the world outside is especially effective. For instance, using mirrors on the wall, using glass table tops, using mirrors on the floors and using mirrored cabinet doors give rooms an open feel.
